Las conversaciones reales no siempre siguen un guion. A veces necesitas pedir información, explicar lo que ocurre, hacer una pregunta, reaccionar ante una respuesta o buscar una solución.

En esta actividad encontrarás diferentes situaciones inspiradas en interacciones cotidianas en las que tendrás que asumir un rol y alcanzar un objetivo comunicativo.

Cada situación te propone un contexto y un pequeño desafío para que practiques el inglés de una manera más cercana a una conversación real. La idea es responder a lo que ocurre y mantener la interacción, no simplemente repetir frases preparadas.

Antes de comenzar, lee el contexto y tu objetivo. Después, intenta mantener la conversación utilizando tus propios recursos lingüísticos y adaptándote a lo que sucede.

A1+ — Everyday Situations

ROLE PLAY 01 — Ordering at a Café
Situation

You are at a café and want to order something to eat and drink.

Student A — Customer

You want to:

  • Order a drink.
  • Order something to eat.
  • Ask about the price.
  • Ask for something to be changed.

Student B — Server

Take the order and answer the customer’s questions.

Useful language

I’d like…
Can I have…?
How much is…?
Can I get it without…?

Challenge

Try to order something that isn’t exactly what you see on the menu.

ROLE PLAY 02 — Meeting Someone New
Situation

You are meeting someone for the first time at a social event.

Student A

Introduce yourself and talk about:

  • Where you live
  • What you do
  • Your interests
  • What you usually do in your free time

Student B

Ask questions and find two things you have in common.

Challenge

Don’t just answer the questions. Ask one question back each time.

A2 — Everyday Problems

ROLE PLAY 01 — Hotel Check-In
Situation

You have arrived at your hotel, but there is a small problem with your reservation.

Student A — Guest

You want to:

  • Check in.
  • Confirm your room.
  • Ask about breakfast.
  • Explain that there is a problem with your reservation.

Student B — Receptionist

Help the guest and find a solution.

Challenge

Ask at least three questions before you finish the conversation.

ROLE PLAY 02 — Making Plans
Situation

You and a friend want to make plans for the weekend, but you don’t agree on what to do.

Student A

You want to:

  • Suggest an activity.
  • Explain why you like the idea.
  • Respond to your friend’s suggestion.
  • Find a compromise.

Student B

Do the same, but have a different preference.

Challenge

Finish the conversation with a plan you both agree on.

B1 — Solve the Situation

ROLE PLAY 01 — The Wrong Order
Situation

You ordered something online, but the wrong product arrived.

Student A — Customer

Explain:

  • What you ordered.
  • What arrived.
  • Why it is a problem.
  • What solution you want.

Student B — Customer Service Representative

Ask questions, apologize appropriately, and offer a solution.

Challenge

The first solution doesn’t work for the customer. Find another solution together.

ROLE PLAY 02 — A First Meeting at Work
Situation

You are meeting a new colleague for the first time.

Student A

Talk about:

  • Your role
  • What you are currently working on
  • Your previous experience
  • Something you enjoy about your work

Student B

Ask questions and find out how you could potentially work together.

Challenge

Find one professional topic you have in common and develop the conversation for at least two minutes.

B2 — Discuss & Negotiate

ROLE PLAY 01 — The Difficult Decision
Situation

You and another person are planning a group trip. You have a limited budget, but everyone wants something different.

Possible options:

Option A: Cheap accommodation + more activities
Option B: Expensive accommodation + fewer activities
Option C: Stay closer to the city center + reduce the travel budget

Your task:

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages and reach a decision together.

Challenge

You cannot simply choose your favorite option. You must respond to the other person’s arguments before making your decision.

ROLE PLAY 02 — Workplace Change
Situation

Your company wants to change its working schedule.

Student A — Employee

You prefer the current schedule and have concerns about the change.

Student B — Manager

You believe the new schedule could benefit the company.

Discuss:

  • Advantages
  • Problems
  • Possible compromises
  • A final solution
Challenge

Reach a solution that both people can accept, even if neither gets exactly what they wanted.

C1 — Complex Interaction

ROLE PLAY 01 — The Ethical Decision
Situation

A company has discovered that one of its products has a problem.

The problem is unlikely to cause serious harm, but fixing it will be expensive.

Student A — Company Director

You are concerned about the financial consequences.

Student B — Ethics / Communications Advisor

You believe the company should be transparent with customers.

Discuss:

  • The possible consequences of each decision.
  • The company’s responsibilities.
  • Public trust.
  • Financial impact.
  • Long-term consequences.
Challenge

Defend your position, respond to objections, and be willing to modify your position if the other person’s argument is convincing.

ROLE PLAY 02 — The Future of Work
Situation

A company is deciding whether employees should work:

A. Fully remotely
B. Fully in the office
C. In a hybrid model

Discuss:

  • Productivity
  • Communication
  • Employee well-being
  • Company culture
  • Flexibility
  • Long-term sustainability
Challenge

Don’t try to “win” the discussion. Your goal is to reach the most convincing solution based on the arguments presented.
